Ergonomic Optimization of Immersive Virtual Environments
Nowadays, VR applications are widely used and involve increasingly challenging conditions such as realism, a higher feeling of presence and interaction comfort. However, HMDs side effect still affecting the user’s immersive interaction. Full body tracking is an amazing way to make more natural interactions in VR interfaces. Nevertheless, this kind of interactions involves large movements resulting in a high physical effort. Our approach introduces “ergonomic retargeting” which focusses on improving users’ comfort on VR interactions with full body tracking systems by the combination of ergonomics methods and hacking user’s perception by warping the space with controlled distortions in the visual channel to reduce the movements’ ratios and keeping them within comfortable ranges.
